We took over ownership from my step mom. We have stayed at the Pono Kai many times with her and on our own. The Pono Kai is a property with a “old Hawaii” charm. It is well maintained and in a perfect location. Its central location on Kauai makes it easy to get to Poipu, Lahui (Costco/ airport) or Hanalei. Right on the beach and bike trial, it is walking distance to shops and restaurants. There is a bike rental place right next door where you can rent bikes for $10.00 per day. The bike path is built on the old pineapple train route and goes north along the coast for 8 miles and is very popular for walking and biking. Pono Kai is right in the heart of Kapaa. The first Saturday of every month they have a street fair with crafts, local food and music. You can walk and bike everywhere in Kapaa and do not need a car. The buildings are spaced far from each other with lush lawns and BBQ’s. There is a nice pool, beautiful tropical gardens, tennis courts and a fabulous Koi pond. The staff is friendly and helpful. You can upgrade your stay to a 2 bedroom ocean front for $75.00 a night. Just writing this makes me want to go there. We live in Baja now and never use it.
