DVC Riviera Resale Restrictions: Are the Savings Worth It?

dvc timeshare riviera resale restrictions

DVC’s Riviera Resort is a lot of things, but it’s not exactly cheap. So if you’ve been thinking of making the Riviera your home resort, it makes sense to consider buying points for it on the resale market. There’s just one wrinkle to factor in: DVC Riviera resale restrictions. While you’ll still have access to all the amenities and accommodations at this resort, these restrictions may have other affects worth keeping in mind. That’s why we’ll be covering all the resale restrictions you’ll want to know about before you buy points.

How Much Do the DVC Riviera Resale Restrictions Affect Your Stay?

First things first, it’s important to clarify one thing: the DVC Riviera resale restrictions have no bearing on your stay at the Riviera Resort itself. As we mentioned earlier, all amenities and accommodations will be completely open to you, just as they would be to those who bought their points directly from DVC. So, what do the DVC resale restrictions affect?

DVC Riviera Resale Restrictions and Other Resorts

One of the biggest resale restrictions on the DVC Riviera Resort is that you won’t be able to visit any other DVC resorts if you buy resale points. You will be strictly limited to staying at the Riviera. This restriction also applies to any future resorts that Disney Vacation Club builds. Of course, if you don’t plan on visiting other DVC resorts, this won’t affect you, but it’s worth keeping in mind.

Differences in Resale Restrictions Between the Riviera and Other DVC Resorts

The Riviera Resort is one of the newest DVC resorts alongside the Villas at Disneyland Hotel and the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. These two newer properties share the same restrictions as Disney’s Riviera Resort. On the other hand, the original 14 resorts, like Disney’s Grand Floridian or Disney’s Boardwalk Villas, are less limited. If you buy at one of the original 14 resorts on the resale market, you can visit any of the other original 14 resorts; you simply won’t have access to any newer properties. For reference, here are the original 14 resorts:

Exceptions to These Resale Restrictions

While these DVC resale restrictions are wide-reaching, there are some exceptions to them. More specifically, while these restrictions apply to completely new resorts, they don’t apply to any new buildings that are part of an existing resort. For example, Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary Resort or the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian both fall under the same restrictions as the original 14 resorts. Additionally, these resale restrictions do not bar you from using Interval International to trade your points to visit other resorts around the world.

Other DVC Riviera Resale Restrictions

While the biggest DVC Riviera resale restriction is on resort access, there are some smaller restrictions resale buyers will want to keep in mind. Buying DVC resale contracts prevents you from getting the discounts on dining, shopping, and park passes that other DVC members enjoy. You also won’t be able to access specific collections of the Member Getaways Program, like the Adventurer Collection, Concierge Collection, Cruise Collection, or Disney Collection.

Is Buying at Disney’s Riviera on the Resale Market Worth It?

So, with these DVC Riviera restrictions in mind, you might be wondering if buying points on the resale market is worth it. At the end of the day, it’s up to you! Ask yourself this: What do you value most in your vacations? If you know that you’re only interested in the Riviera resort, then the savings on the resale market definitely make it a great value. Additionally, if you don’t plan to spend much time at your home resort and instead want to spend most of your time at the parks themselves, the Riviera has easy access to Walt Disney World through its Skyliner system and shuttles. With that said, if you love all the DVC resorts and want to visit each of them, buying a resale may not be for you.

Adding DVC Points to Your Membership
