DVC Resale Historic Price Per Point
Disney Vacation Club has never been cheap, and the average DVC price per point tends to trend upward. Between the initial cost and annual dues, DVC membership can easily cost thousands of dollars. More than anything, the high upfront cost can deter potential DVC members. It’s a valid concern, especially considering the rapidly depreciating value of some of the best vacation clubs. However, DVC points stand out compared to most vacation clubs in one important way. Unlike most other clubs, DVC’s points often retain their value. In fact, some DVC resorts have even appreciated on the resale market.

DVC Cost Per Point Averages
It’s important to remember that these figures are simply averages for price per point across the Disney Vacation Club resorts. You can find contracts for sale on our marketplace that are more or less than stated in the table above. The purpose of these figures is to provide a straightforward, easy-to-understand guideline to help you plan. There are many factors that can affect the price per point of DVC resort timeshares, like how many points are in the contract and if there are any pending reservations, points holding, points banked, or points borrowed.
You can see from our historical data that DVC resort points typically appreciate in value, even on the resale market. While it appears that Copper Creek has gone down between 2018 to 2020, take into consideration that we did not sell as many on the resale market because contracts are still relatively new. Additionally, there was a significant increase in the average resale price per point from $145.96 in 2021 to $159.47 in 2022. With that said, with 2023 came price drops for every DVC resort aside from Disney’s Grand Californian resort. However, that means that if you’re interested in owning DVC points, now is a great time to purchase them. You’ll have an opportunity to save some money on the initial purchase price when compared to previous years, where DVC resorts like Bay Lake Tower, Copper Creek Villas, or Disney’s Grand Floridian were more expensive.

Save on the Resale Market
If you’re looking to save on vacation points with DVC, it’s clear that the resale market is a great option. After all, DVC resale points have a lower purchase price than directly bought points across the board. Interested in exploring the resale market? Before you do, be aware that there are certain DVC resale restrictions to keep in mind when you do purchase points from the secondary market. Another factor to keep in mind when purchasing a resale contract is that every sale on the secondary market must undergo DVC’s Right of First Refusal (ROFR). So low-balling any resale listing isn’t always in your best interest as a buyer because there is a chance the Disney Vacation Club will buy back the points instead during their ROFR review.
Is choosing to purchase DVC points on the resale market worth it? At the end of the day, that’s up to you! If you want to experience all of the benefits of DVC, like making reservations at every resort or getting access to Members Only lounges and discounts, purchasing directly from Disney is probably your best bet. But, if you already own points purchased directly from DVC and are just looking to add more, or you don’t care as much about the perks and value of a lower purchase price, the resale market can be a great tool to help you with significant savings.
Can I Sell My DVC Points For More?
You might also be wondering if DVC point values depreciate similarly to less popular vacation ownership programs. In order to find a legitimate answer based on factual data, let’s take a look at the original Disney Vacation Club prices for each resort and then compare them to the current resale price per point.

How Things Have Changed
Upon Old Key West‘s opening in 1991, Disney was selling points at about $51.00 per point. By examining Fidelity’s DVC resale purchase prices for 2014, we found that Old Key West sold for an average of $60.98 per point. In 2018, this soared to $86 per point, with increases continuing through 2022, bringing the price per point up to $117.52. As of 2023, those prices have seen a dip down to $85.36, but an annual increase was happening every year for several years prior. This means that while permanent growth is not a guarantee, the contract of your home resort is absolutely capable of increasing in value over time.
It’s also important to remember that timeshares are meant to be enjoyed as a vacation home first and foremost. You can use them year after year to enjoy a lifetime of vacations at Disney World and Disneyland. Having the chance to potentially sell them in the future for more than you bought them for is just the cherry on top.
Not All DVC Resorts Resale Value Surpass the Original Purchase Price
Those familiar with the pricing in the DVC resale market know that not all resorts are equal in cost. A 200-point package at the Grand Floridian sells for substantially more than 200 points at Vero Beach. Similarly, DVC points at certain resorts have more worth over time than others. Keep in mind that newer resorts also take time to catch up in growth and popularity to DVC’s classic resorts.
So why do some resorts retain their worth so much better than others? The cost per point between different resorts can vary depending on a number of factors, but one of the most important is popularity. For example, BoardWalk and Beach Club are more sought after because of their unique amenities and location. Old Key West has slightly larger units than other resorts. And the Grand Californian is set apart because it is the only DVC resort at Disneyland, so availability is limited. When choosing your home resort, it’s important to think about what you value most in a timeshare, and to base your decision off of that.
Are DVC Points Worth It?
After diving into the numbers, it’s important for us to clarify some very important points. As we mentioned before, Disney Vacation Club is not a financial investment. It is not a real estate investment. DVC members should not expect to make a profit on their purchases. Instead, consider Disney Vacation Club ownership as an investment in quality family vacations, fond memories, or even mental well-being. If you and your family want to visit the happiest or most magical place on Earth, then the purchase price of DVC points will likely be worth it for you.
Want to learn more about how Disney Vacation Club works and the perks owners have with DVC? Then you’re in luck! We have plenty of blogs covering all the ways you can make the most out of your Disney Vacation Club points. In all reality, DVC is really worth it if you’re going to use it year after year. If you’re still on the fence, you can find listings available on the resale market at great savings over buying directly from DVC.

Is DVC An Investment?
It’s not a great idea to purchase Disney Vacation Club ownership just to try to make a profit on it. DVC contract end dates may extend to buoy the value of points, but there’s a great deal of uncertainty about what the future holds. Selling a DVC membership can require a licensed real estate broker, so you’ll pay other costs like commission charges and closing fees. While it’s important to reiterate again that DVC is not an investment, it’s good to know that after enjoying years of terrific family vacations, you may be able to get quite a bit of your money back further on down the line.
